Which Is More Important: Physical, Emotional, or Spiritual Health?
Have you ever noticed how, when your emotions are running high, your body feels it too? Maybe your shoulders tense up, your digestion goes sideways, or you can’t seem to sleep well. It’s a good reminder that physical, emotional, and spiritual health are all connected.
Think of all of the emotions you've experienced in your life. How might they affect you as you move through perimenopause and menopause?
Most of the time, I coach clients around physical health — nutrition, lifestyle, and daily habits. After all, as the saying goes, if you don’t have your health, you don’t have anything. But in my experience, all three aspects of health are equally important. The one most out of balance will eventually pull the others out of balance, too.
Spiritual health is very personal, so I’ll just say this: find what recharges your soul and do it. For some, that’s organized religion or gospel study. For others, it’s time in nature or quiet reflection.
Where I see the most struggle is in emotional health. We all carry hurts, frustrations, and stressors. Some are buried so deep we don’t even realize they’re there — but like water dripping on stone, they still wear us down over time.
Counseling with a mental health professional is an excellent option (and often partly covered by insurance). Another gentle, complementary approach I use in my clinic is flower essences.
Think about how simply seeing flowers can lift your spirits. For me, gerbera daisies and lilies always bring an instant mood boost. Flower essences work in a similar way, but at a deeper energetic level. They aren’t drugs and don’t act like drugs. Instead, they help shift your energy so you can process emotions more easily, often without even realizing it’s happening.
Here’s how it works: together, we identify the emotional theme that’s most affecting your health. Then, using well-researched flower remedies (like Bach and North American essences), we select up to five flowers that resonate with your unique experience. I blend them into a personalized formula, preserved in the carrier of your choice — purified water, organic apple cider vinegar, or vodka.
Purified water. This has no preservative qualities, so the formula will have a shelf-life of seven days.
Apple Cider Vinegar. I only use organic ACV. It has a strong flavor, but you’re taking only four drops at a time, so it’s manageable for most people. Organic ACV still has the ‘mother’ in it – the mother looks like little floaty bits. When you see these in your formula bottle, it has not gone bad. ACV is an excellent preservative for flower essences and has a very long shelf life.
Vodka. For this, I use an Alberta-made 90-proof vodka , offering excellent preservative qualities. (Funny thing is, I don’t drink alcohol of any kind, but I do use it in making herbal extracts and flower essence formulas.)
There are flower essences for nearly every emotional imbalance — fear, sadness, anger, overwhelm, and more. If you’ve been dealing with a persistent health issue, there may be an emotional root contributing to it. Flower essences could be a gentle, supportive way to help you release that root and restore balance.
It's interesting how the shifting hormonal balance of perimenopause and menopause can uncover stored emotional energy that is not helpful to us.
Many years ago, I worked with a woman who was in her mid-40’s. As we worked on her physical health we seemed to hit a roadblock. The supplements and dietary changes were not working the way they should have ~ a clear indication there was an emotional block.
As I gently brought up the idea of some kind of trauma that was ‘stuck’ and ‘blocking’ progress, the client shared with me details of horrible abuses that had been dished out to her when she was just a school-aged child. She had been through decades of counseling, and was still in counseling, but didn’t feel she was making any progress.
We discussed flower essences and created a formula for her to use in tandem with the counseling. When she returned a month later, she had a totally different countenance. It was brighter and more relaxed.
I asked her how she was doing. Her response was “Fantastic! I’ve made such progress in counseling this past month and I’m very sure it is due in large part to the flower essences.”
We revisited her formula, considering the progress she had made, and adjusted her formula to support the momentum she was feeling. We repeated this process several times over the ensuing months until she felt she was free of the energy of the abuse.
If achieving this kind of emotional healing for past traumas resonates with you, I’d love to explore whether flower essences could be the missing piece in your wellness journey. Let’s create a formula just for you.
